Class Experience

These lessons are for students who have a good knowledge of basic English.
Students will learn to read and use new vocabulary words in their own sentences. Students will read stories, answer reading comprehension questions, and learn to retell stories. Students will answer "Why?" questions and apply the material to their own lives. Students will learn to use the past tense, irregular verbs, comparative adjectives, and prepositions.

My class will focus on the individual needs of the student. Many students would benefit from being able to take the time to focus on areas that haven't been mastered yet. For example, a student may read well, but not yet have the ability to talk about what was read. Or perhaps, a student would benefit from learning to read accurately and fluently at a higher level. Some students may read very well and succeed at grammar exercises but need more support to talk conversationally or write paragraphs with correct grammar.

Class 1: An introductory lesson where I will be able to analyze the student's ability in reading, speaking, vocabulary usage, and grammar.

The following classes will use slides, stories, and games to work on specific goals. All classes will have pronunciation correction.

Example Topics:

- Using the past tense to talk about the weather and school subjects

- Using the past tense to talk about last night and last weekend

- Using adverbs of frequecy with the present tense

- Answering the question, "How often do you _____?" using the phrases: once a week, twice a week, three times a week, once a month, twice a month, and three times a month

If the student is able to use the simple past tense well, more advanced topics will be introduced.

Example Topics:

- Inventions (paper, chocolate, silk, and erasers)

- Dangerous Jobs

- Music genres, famous artists, musical instruments, and producing

- Using the present perfect tense

- Using the past perfect tense
