4-Week Curriculum for Virtual Phonics Tutoring Using Phonics for Reading

Week 1: Introduction to Phonics
Focus: Phonemic awareness and the alphabet.
Activities: Introduction to sounds and letters, distinguishing between vowels and consonants.
Objective: Students will recognize and name all letters of the alphabet and understand basic phonemic principles.

Week 2: Short Vowels and Simple Consonants
Focus: Short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u) and beginning consonant sounds.
Activities: Interactive games on vowel sounds, reading and decoding simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.
Objective: Mastery of short vowel sounds and ability to blend these with initial consonants to form words.

Week 3: Digraphs and Blends
Focus: Introduction to consonant digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh) and blends (bl, cr, st, fr).
Activities: Audio-visual exercises identifying digraph sounds, blending activities using digital flashcards.
Objective: Ability to decode and read words containing common digraphs and blends.

Week 4: Long Vowels and Silent ‘e’
Focus: Long vowel sounds and the silent ‘e’ rule.
Activities: Interactive stories highlighting the magic ‘e’ rule, spelling activities that contrast short and long vowel sounds.
Objective: Understand and apply the silent ‘e’ rule, distinguishing between short and long vowel sounds in words.

Interactive Lessons: Each session utilizes iReady's interactive features, ensuring lessons are engaging and cater to various learning styles.
Real-Time Feedback: Immediate corrections and encouragement are provided during live sessions, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Customized Learning Paths: Based on weekly assessments, personalized assignments and practice sessions will be tailored to address each student’s specific needs.

This 4-week curriculum is designed to provide a structured yet flexible approach to phonics tutoring, maximizing the benefits of the iReady Phonics for Reading program in a virtual setting.

Assessment:
Students will be assessed through regular quizzes, oral reading assessments, and a portfolio of their work, including worksheets and digital activities completed throughout the semester.

Objective:
By the end of this course, students will have mastered fundamental and advanced phonics skills, enabling them to read confidently at or above their grade level. They will have a solid foundation in phonics that supports their ongoing education in reading and writing.

In the "Journey Through Phonics" class, students will learn:

Phonemic Awareness: Identifying and manipulating sounds in spoken words.
Phonics: Understanding the relationship between letters and sounds, mastering decoding skills for reading.

The "Journey Through Phonics" class is intentionally designed to be inclusive and supportive of students with unique learning needs, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and ASD. The course incorporates various strategies and accommodations
