Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 4
Students will participate one-on-one in a writing lesson, focusing on how to use a graphic organizer and compose a paragraph from a prompt. Consecutive classes will dive deeper into the writing process and include a focus on descriptive words, revising, editing, and good beginnings/endings. With the use of a document camera, Mrs. T will be able to model appropriate writing structure along with your child by projecting her work clearly and fully on your screen. She will also provide plenty of positive feedback and encouragement to help raise writing confidence. This specific class meets 2 times a week.
Learning Goals
Students will develop their writing process skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Sarah, and I have been an elementary educator for 18 years. I am especially passionate about children's literature and have developed a love for teaching reading strategies/fluency and writing to young learners.
My teaching career began in 2002 when I graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. After teaching for 6 years as a 3rd grade classroom teacher, I slightly changed course and pursued a career as a librarian. I became a Special Education Assistant for 2 years while I worked on my schooling and eventually earned an additional Master's Degree in Library Media K-12 from Longwood University. My last 7 years as an educator have been in an elementary library setting, teaching students aged preK-5th grade. I am also the mother of a 5th and 8th grader who like to act as "trial run" students for my new Outschool classes!
Engagement, interaction, and fun! The best learning takes place when students are fully invested and excited about the topic that is being taught. My teaching style is a combination of modeling, critical thinking, student participation, independent practice, and sharing...and sometimes a little silliness may sneak in!
Take a peek at my reading and writing classes below. I look forward to seeing you soon!
