In this fun, one-on-one private class, students will be introduced to word families and learn to read by sounding out words—all while having fun! Through engaging, interactive slides, games, and activities, your child will build essential reading skills and gain confidence as they progress. We will focus on one-syllable, three-letter (CVC) words and enhance learning through fun, decodable readers and worksheets.

Why are we learning about word families?
Word families are groups of words that share the same ending sounds, like -at (cat, bat, hat) or -ed (bed, fed, red). Recognizing these patterns helps students decode and read words more easily, building confidence and fluency. Throughout the course, students will master over 170 CVC words!

Short “a” word families: -at, -an, -ag, -ap, -am, -ab, -ad, -ax
Short “e” word families: -et, -ed, -eg, -en
Short “i” word families: -it, -id, -ig, -ip, -im, -ix
Short “o” word families: -ot, -op, -og, -ob, -ox
Short “u” word families: -ut, -ug, -um, -ub, -un, -ud, -up

This is a fun class with lots of opportunity for interaction, engagement and discussion. Parents will receive a downloadable PDF to print each week. While printing the worksheet is optional (but recommended), your child should bring writing paper, a notebook, or a whiteboard to class if printing is not possible.
