In this reading class, your child will be given a Literacy assessment in order to develop an individualized plan tailored to your child's specific reading needs. Following the assessment, parents can choose to set up private tutoring.

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
In the first class, your child will be given a comprehensive literacy assessment which will cover the following skills: letter identification, letter sound knowledge, phonics skills, phonological awareness, sight word knowledge, reading comprehension, and independent reading level versus instructional reading level. *This first class may take longer than 30 minutes and possibly up to 60 minutes for older students. After the initial assessment class, I will share the results with you via Outschool email. Then, if you would like, we can set up private 1:1 tutoring instruction that will be individualized and tailored to your child's reading needs. I will use books on your child's instructional reading level and we will do activities to improve any areas of weakness. The reading tutoring sessions will be 30 minutes in length. You can schedule these for once or twice weekly. Please feel free to let me know what days and times work best for you.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their decoding, phonics, phonological awareness, reading fluency, and reading comprehension skills.

No materials are required for this class. I will supply any needed materials.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I enjoy teaching children of all ages. I have 25+ years of teaching experience. I have taught in public school, private school, and homeschooled my two children. Some of the subjects I like to teach include: elementary science, reading, Spanish, ESL, language arts and cooking for those with dairy allergies.
My goal is to make learning fun and interesting for your child. The best part about being a teacher is getting to share in the "aha" moment when a student learns a new concept.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy watching anime with my son, baking, or working on a DIY project.
