This class is taught in English.

The goals for learners in my reading tutoring classes are to advance to grade-level reading proficiency, to become confident, fluent readers and most of all to gain a life-long love for reading and learning.

I received a Bachelor of Science: Elementary Education and Master of Arts: Education from Ball State University and was a 1st or 2nd grade elementary teacher for 33 years where I truly enjoyed teaching all subjects.

I also received a full academic year of graduate-level education and three years of continued ongoing professional development to become a certified Reading Recovery teacher. During those 4 years, I taught one-on-one reading to 1st graders and small literacy groups to 1st or 2nd graders. This was a very intense professional development model that ignited my passion for teaching reading. 

Most recently, I trained with The Reading Simplified Academy and became a Reading Simplified Expert teacher/tutor. I absolutely loved this amazing reading system and the continued support of the academy! It reinforced everything I had learned and experienced to be effective as a Reading Recovery and classroom teacher into an informed, efficient and engaging teaching methodology. I'm very excited to get started on the Outschool platform and to use the Reading Simplified system to accelerate a learner's progress toward grade level reading proficiency and fluency in a fun and engaging way!

Homework Offered
Some time outside of class rereading the new lesson text will be optional, but recommended.

Assessments Offered
👉During the 1st class, two assessments will be given to determine each individual learner’s needs and starting point.
👉 Ongoing progress monitoring will provide the student’s current most pressing need and the personalized teaching focus for the next lesson.
