Class Experience
In these private, personalized classes I will teach your learner the Spanish language in a way they will find engaging and fun! I believe in taking a child centered approach to language learning by incorporating topics they find interesting and entertaining. Whether it's creepy critters, geography, their favorite cartoon characters, etc. teaching students using themes they love really helps them retain what they learn because it's fun and meaningful to them! In this class, I will cater to your child's level of fluency whether they have no Spanish experience, a little, or can carry on a full conversation. I'm here to help your child learn and expand on their Spanish fluency and love of learning! I also take a "low-tech" approach without videos or other distractions so that your learner feels like they are actually in a classroom with me and we can really interact and practice what they are learning while making the most of our time together. Learning Goals
Depending on their needs and level of fluency, students will learn Spanish language basics (i.e. the alphabet sounds, days of the week, months of the year, counting, colors, weather, greetings, etc.). Intermediate learners will build on their Spanish vocabulary and move on to beginning conversations on topics they are most interested in. Students with a higher level of fluency will have a Spanish immersion class where they can strengthen their conversational skills and fluency.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Ms. Makay and I come to Outschool as a mom of two with experience working as a bilingual guest teacher, cohort lead, and online Spanish teacher. I have also spent several years working as a writer and Spanish language interpreter. I graduated from the University of Portland with my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with minors in Spanish and German and spent several years traveling internationally prior to becoming a mom as well!
I'm natively fluent in both Spanish and English and absolutely love making learning fun in either (or both) languages! I work mainly with children in the 4-12 age range and cover topics kids love like creepy critters, awesome animals, creative writing, conversational Spanish and English, Spanish language basics and more. My approach is child-led and I create my classes around themes and content that kids enjoy to make the learning process fun, engaging, and creative. Lots of giggles welcome as well!
I believe children learn best when they feel a connection to their teacher, which is created when the teacher has her best listening ears on and a big smile. I always have both!
