THIS CLASS:
During this private one on one learn to read class, your child will learn to read well in 100 days of classes using a highly structured, phonics based reading program. This program uses 100 interactive lessons that will have your child reading on a solid 2nd grade level upon completion.

Teaching children to read well from the start is the most important task. This program does NOT use the look-say or whole-word method. Instead, it is a very structured 100 day phonics based method of teaching your child to read by sounding out each letter.

EACH CLASS: We will learn & review our sounds, start rhyming with our sounds, say our words & sounds slowly & then fast, practice writing our letters and words in a non-formal, fun way, & after a few lessons begin reading words & short stories and complete reading comprehension tasks. This program starts slowly, but quickly takes off after a few lessons. Your little one will be reading words after a few classes!

🏆Upon completion of the program, students will receive a certificate for learning how to read!🏆
I also give each child a sticker page, and they get to pick out their stickers for the day before ending our class.

🌟All classes will start and end on time. If there are no students in the class, I will leave the class at the half way point (10 minutes.) REFUND POLICY: No refunds will be given for missed classes.

ABOUT ME:
I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I have obtained my 120 hour TESOL teaching certificate. I have over 20 years of teaching experience. I have taught this learn to read curriculum to my students in public school, students online, and also to my two little boys. It is a very successful reading program that will teach children to read well upon completion. My teaching style is very laid back and fun. This class is a very structured phonics based class. However, I do add fun and laughter to make each child excited about learning to read! 💛

WEEKLY SCHEDULE (4 days a week):
Week 1: Introduce, learn, & review letters m, short a, & s. Practice saying these sounds slowly & fast. Practice sounds of words slowly & then fast to say the word. Practice putting two letter sounds together. Practice writing our letters in a fun, non-formal way.
Week 2: Introduce, learn, & review letters m, short a, s, long e, & t. Practice saying these sounds slowly & fast. Practice sounds of words slowly & then fast to say the word. Practice putting two and three letter sounds together. Continue to practice writing our letters in a fun, non-formal way. We will also start rhyming this week. We will rhyme with our letters that we are learning to make a word.
Week 3: Introduce, learn, & review letters m, short a, s, long e, t, r, & d. Practice saying these sounds slowly & fast. We will continue to practice rhyming. Practice sounds of words slowly & then fast to say the word. Practice putting letter sounds together to form words. By the end of this week, your child will be reading two to four letter words! Continue to practice writing our letters in a fun, non-formal way.
Week 4: Introduce, learn, & review letters m, short a, s, long e, t, r, d, s, short i, & th. Practice saying these sounds slowly & fast. We will continue to practice rhyming. Practice sounds of words slowly & then fast to say the word. Practice putting letter sounds together to form words. Continue to practice reading words. We will start reading short stories this week. Each story will include a picture. Your child will read the story & answer comprehension questions related to the story and picture. By the end of this week, your child will be reading two to four letter words with ease! Continue to practice writing our letters in a fun, non-formal way.
Each week will continue in this format. We will learn new sounds each week while still reviewing the previous sounds. Children will continue to read previous words learned as well as new ones. We will continue reading our stories and answering comprehension questions daily for each story we read. Our stories start out short, but they gradually progress and get longer. This builds tremendous confidence in children. We laugh & talk to make learning fun. And, I strive to make sure that each child that attends my class knows how well they are doing.

THE PROGRAM:
The lessons each include a variety of different “tasks” or activities for students to do. In our early lessons, we will practice the sound for new letters, repeat sounds that we hear, sound out words slowly, and read by saying the words fast. By lesson 50, students will be practicing sounds and sounding out words, using rhyming patterns to read words quickly, practicing sight words, and reading short stories using Distar Orthography. We will also practice reading comprehension with each short story we read. By lesson 100, students will read a 200+ word short story that is written using standard letters.

Using the Distar approach to teach children to read, students will learn to read by sounding out words. Children will be taught to use their finger to follow along under the words that they are reading. Students will be sent printable pages weekly for the lessons we will learn.❗You will need to either print these weekly or have an iPad or other device that your child will be able to use during class. Students will need to be able to physically move their fingers under each letter that makes a sound and under each word. Students will move their finger along the arrow, from dot to dot, saying a letter sound at each dot. This is a very important step in learning to read in this program. If you are unable to print these papers or have a device available for your student, this program will not be a good fit.❗This is a way for kids to begin to be able to sound out words on their own.
