Class Experience

Intermediate - Advanced Level
This one-on-one class is open to students with varying musical background and skills. Within a relaxed, safe, and encouraging learning environment, these lessons will provide the tools, skills and knowledge necessary to play any of your favorite styles of music.

Parents of young students, please ensure that if your child is playing a brass instrument, that they have valve oil or slide grease handy and that they have blown warm air through their instrument to warm it up prior to the lesson as it may take valuable time away from actual learning and playing.

Some Topics Covered: Basic instrument knowledge/care, reading/recognizing the tools and symbols used in music, proper posture, fingering, and embouchure technique, material I will present, as well as material and music you would like to focus on.

Class Structure: Access prior knowledge and review older material (if applicable), present newer material/exercises, practice new material. I tend to follow the "I do, we do, you do" format.

Learners are encouraged to ask as many questions as they need to ensure clear and concise delivery of information. The more at ease a student is the more they tend to enjoy and retain!

Other Details

Supply List
Student must have their own instrument (ideally oiled prior to class).
Student should also have bottle of valve oil handy.
I highly recommend the 'Essential Elements for Band - Baritone B.C. Book 2'.
This method book is well laid out and easy to understand. * B.C. = Bass Clef
If the student has read Treble Clef prior to these lessons, it may be a good idea to acquire the "Essential Elements for Band - Baritone T.C. Book 2' instead. *T.C. =Treble Clef
***If these method books seem too easy, please acquire the
'Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet' (yes trumpet) as it is a multi-duty/instrumental method book and excellently serves various brass instruments***
