Class Experience
Class Topics: 3x3 Cube, Pyraminx, 2x2 Cube, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Rubik's Cube, Algorithms *THIS CLASS CAN BE SCHEDULED DIRECTLY BY PARENTS - PLEASE REACH OUT IF THERE IS NO AVAILABILITY THAT SUITES YOUR SCHEDULE* **IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ**: This is a private class. Beginner's 3x3 or Cuber 101 instruction is available to all students. The 3x3 cube is foundational for learning all other cubes. Therefore, instruction for 2x2 and/or Pyraminx are only available to students who have already learned to solve the 3x3 cube. After signing up, the welcome post will ask you to state which cube or instruction you are requesting. It will be assumed that 3x3 is what will be taught unless otherwise stated. A pdf of the solution handout for the 3x3 cube can be found in the welcome post. Color prints are best, but printing is not necessary. The handouts will only be needed for independent practice after class. Pyraminx or 2x2 handouts will be sent as needed. Because our progress will be based on each individual learner's aptitude, I cannot promise a solve during any given class, but I can assure that the class will be productive and engaging. Individualized instruction will be adjusted to fit learner's needs and level. A private class provides the best conditions for quick learning as there is no wait time between students. IN THIS ONE-TIME CLASS STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE . . . ~printable color solution handouts for the particular cube or instruction chosen ~private individualized instruction and modeling ~time for questions and clarification STUDENTS SHOULD BRING. . . ~a full size 3x3 standard Rubik's cube or other brand cube AND/OR ~a standard Pyraminx cube with 3 layers and 9 small triangles on each face (**not the 2x2 Pyraminx with just 4 large triangles on each face**) AND/OR ~a standard 2x2 cube ALONG WITH ~a printed or digital copy of the solution handouts AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ~ a positive attitude Did you know that it is estimated that "less than 5.8% of the world's population can solve the Rubik's Cube?" That means just 1 out of every 20 people with a Cube can actually solve it! Are you ready to be among those amazing minds that can do it too? Did you also know that there are over 43 quintillion possible configurations of the Cube? That is 43 with 18 zeros after it! (43,000,000,000,000,000,000)
Learning Goals
Students will learn . . .
~to read and apply cubing algorithms
~steps for solving their cube
~to learn from their mistakes

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hawaii Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Hawaii West Oahu
I have been a licensed elementary school teacher since 2012. I taught grades K, 1, 4, 5, and 6 in the public education system in Hawaii. During 2020, when schools moved to distance learning as a safety precaution, I learned that I enjoyed teaching online and that it was well suited to some of my students too! In 2021, my family moved to Idaho and I began teaching on Outschool. One of my favorite things about teaching online is meeting students from all around the world!
I was born to 2nd generation immigrant families. My father's side is Japanese-American, and my mother's side is Filipino-American. Hawaii is very multi-cultural place so being born and raised there makes me truly appreciate different cultures, food, and places.
My teaching style is engaging, interactive, and very relational. I feel that positive human connection cultivates an environment for optimum learning.
My favorite subjects to learn, and to teach, are Science, Math, Art, Engineering, and Philosophy. I love learning new methods, exploring new ideas, and tackling new challenges.
