Princess Musical Theatre With Miss Lexa (Ongoing)
Class experience
Preschool students will engage with all elements of musical theater in this action-packed princess themed ongoing class. Each week we’ll spend 45 minutes singing, dancing, and acting while playing games! Every class will begin with an acting activity that matches the themed Princess of the Day. In these acting activities we’ll explore emotions, facial expressions, body language, using our voices, and discussing storylines. Then we’ll do a basic jazz dance warm-up/stretch and learn a short...
1) Identify the three elements of musical theatre: singing, dancing, and acting. 2) Actively participate in games and activities to support social-emotional development, motor skills, and acting skills. 3) Demonstrate acting as a character through body movements and/or facial expressions.
I have over 6 years of dance and theater instructing experience for large scale competition studios, theatres, and preschool programs and have been directing community theatre productions for 3 years. As a professional dancer with a Group Fitness Instructor Certification, I also have an in-depth knowledge of movement science and safe practices. Alongside my Bachelor’s in Theatre Studies, I also hold two Associate degrees in Child Development and Social and Behavioral Sciences- making me well versed in instructional techniques for preschool aged students.
Dancers are welcome to wear a leotard and tights, their favorite dress-up costume, or moveable street clothes. Ballet shoes or jazz shoes are recommended but bare feet are also welcomed! A distraction-free space where you can freely and safely move is also recommended, as well as having a water bottle close by.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Dance is a physical activity which should always be done with parental supervision. Dancing on a flat and uncluttered floor space is encouraged to help eliminate potential hazards. Having water close by and taking breaks when needed is also encouraged. If the child has a physical limitation or medical condition which is aggravated by movement, please consult a doctor before participating. *A note on expectations: During sing-a-long time I share my screen with learners so they can see the words we are learning. I in no way expect this age group to be able to read along- I am simply providing the lyrics so they can see the words as we sing them and support their reading development/word identification. Memorization of lyrics and dances is not expected or needed.
Miss Lexa does not own and did not create the music or characters used in class. Disney characters and music are used only as an instructional tool to support learning.
