Class Experience

Post-Impressionism was a major movement art history during the late 1800's. Post-Impressionists was a change from the Impressionists naturalistic use of color and light. The movement was based in France, an enclave for artists. It featured some of the best-known artists including Vincent Van Gogh. It was marked by the exploration of new techniques and interpretations of art subjects.

In this class we will study the history of Post-Impressionism and explore the lives of three significant Masters of Post-Impressionistic Art - Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Paul Cezanne. We will learn about the lives of these artists. We will view samples of the art they created and discuss the techniques they used. We will learn about art basics including color, lines, subject matter, and techniques. We will create our own works of art inspired by the works of these great Masters.

You will need a good set of paints and paintbrushes (Acrylics or Tempera are preferred.) with at least red, blue, yellow, white, and black available, two cups half-filled with water, paper towels, a plastic plate or a palette for mixing paint, white art paper or heavy paper, a sharp pencil, and a ruler Note: If using tube acrylics, you will need a medium of your choice to mix your paints.

Our class schedule will be:
Class 1: Vincent Van Gogh
Class 2: Paul Cezanne
Class 3: Henri Matisse

Please let me know prior to the start of the class if your child has any special needs or accommodations.

If there is another day or time you would like to take this class, please drop me a message here on Outschool.
