Cubism was an art movement in the early 1900s. Cubism was a way of exploring art by breaking down and fragmenting its subjects to create modern, avant-garde paintings and sculptures. Cubists used a variety of techniques in their art. Cubism inspired new art movements and many works in the visual, written, and musical arts as well as in architecture. In this class, we will study the history of Cubism and explore the lives of three Cubists - Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, and Kazimir Malevich. We will learn about the lives of these artists. We will view samples of the art they created and discuss the techniques they used. We will learn about art basics including color, lines, subject matter, and techniques. We will create our own works of art inspired by the works of these great artists. You will need a good set of paints and paintbrushes (Acrylics or Tempera are preferred.) with at least red, blue, yellow, white, and black available, two cups half-filled with water, paper towels, a plastic plate or a palette for mixing paint, white art paper or heavy paper, a sharp pencil, and a ruler Note: If using tube acrylics, you will need a medium of your choice to mix your paints. In addition, you will need various pieces of different colors of construction paper for Day 3 plus glue and safety scissors. Our class schedule will be: Class 1: Pablo Picasso Class 2: Paul Klee Class 3: Kazimir Malevich Please let me know prior to the start of the class if your child has any special needs or accommodations.
