This class is part of the Primus Science (TM) Complete Science Course Curriculum. All Primus Science classes include interactive, online live classes on Outschool with daily hands-on labs & projects, plus optional worksheets and quizzes. Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Learn all about the weather in this course. We will study the atmosphere. We will learn how weather works around the world and how geography affects our weather. We will explore the water cycle and precipitation. We will learn about barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind. We will make weather observations and chart our local weather during the course. We will explore extreme weather including hurricanes, cyclones, thunderstorms, and tornados.

We will complete daily projects. Please make sure you have the supplies listed below for the daily project.

Day 1: Introduction to Weather and the Atmosphere / We will make a Weather Journal
Day 2: The Water Cycle and Precipitation/ We will make a Water Cycle model
Day 3: Air Pressure and Fronts / We will do a weather front experiment
Day 4: Wind and Clouds / We will make a Wind Sock
Day 5: Extreme Weather/ We will make a rain cloud

Supplies for the Daily Projects:

Day 1: Two pieces of construction paper and items to decorate a journal (markers, paints, crayons, cotton balls, etc.) and 10 copies of the Weather Journal Printout, tape, stapler or string
Day 2: Ziploc bag, 1/2 cup water, blue food coloring, tape, Water Cycle printout from the Class Page, optional: crayons, markers, pastels, etc. / Plus you will need three small balloons and blue food coloring plus more water (use the sink for this part)
Day 3: large plastic or glass bowl filled with warm water, red liquid food coloring + frozen balloons from last week (get them out of the freezer at the end of this class so they don't melt), safety scissors
Day 4: 2 Empty Toilet Paper Tubes, 2-3 plastic grocery bags, tape, safety scissors and string.
Day 5:  1 jar or clear glass, water to fill the jar or glass 1/2 inch from the top, foaming shaving cream, liquid food coloring

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We will be using scissors in this class. If your student needs assistance with safe scissor use, please have an adult nearby. Adults Educational science videos are used during class. Some of these may be on YouTube.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Minors: Biology, Chemistry, and Writing
Annette the Teacher has been teaching for a very long time. She has over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. She has a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has homeschooled her own children from Pre-School through (their current) High School. All of her classes are interactive. Annette encourages students to fully participate in class. All of her classes feature hands-on activities and books Annette writes for the class herself.

Annette is a published writer, publisher, and artist. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience to create unique classes for every student. She enjoys teaching science, history, art, and cooking classes. She brings history alive with her "Life in ..." history classes where students learn about key times in history by experiencing children and families' lives in that time period. "Paint like ..." art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Kid Cuisine classes are cooking classes for Young Chefs based on historic foods and science topics. Students should be prepared to make, explore, and create during class. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.

Annette spent the first nine years of her professional life working in the medical field. She worked as a Transplant Coordinator, retrieving organs for transplantation, and she worked in research. When she was five years old she got her first microscope (which she still has). She also became obsessed with the brain at the age of five. She made her own model of the brain, which she also still has to this day.

Annette also has experience working with Special Needs children. She is Mom to a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs. She also has worked with children with ADHD. If your child has special needs, please contact Annette so she can work with you and your child.
