Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Get your hands dirty in this gardening class for 6-8-year-olds.

We will learn about seeds and how they become plants. We will follow a seed through its life cycle. We will watch a video of seeds and plants growing. We will also complete a project. We will make our own mini-greenhouse and plant seeds.

I use mostly recycled items for my projects. You will need some empty toilet paper tubes and a clear plastic container like the kind strawberries come in. You will also need about 2 cups of dirt. We will be planting seeds. If you do not have a seed packet, you can take seeds out of a raw tomato or raw green beans or raw zucchini or raw squash or raw pumpkins.

I encourage children to fully participate in my classes. Students can usually participate in my classes on their own, but they may need assistance with parts of their project. (We will be using scissors to cut the toilet paper tubes.) The students should be able to complete the rest of the project on their own.

I look forward to seeing you in class!

Supplies for the class project:
A plastic container with a lid from fruit - like a strawberry container or a cookie container (If you do not have a clear plastic container, you can use a food tub - like a butter or sour cream container and a gallon plastic bag.)
Seeds - herb or flower - You can use seeds from something you ate, like a tomato or a pepper
Dirt - bought or dug up from your garden (You will need about 2 cups of dirt.)
3-4 Empty Toilet Paper Rolls
Scissors
