Description

Class Experience

Students will learn about aviation and flight. Students will learn about engineering, physics, mechanics, energy, aerodynamics, and meteorology. Students will complete daily projects or experiments. This class can be used as the basis for a Science Fair Project.
Annette the Teacher has been teaching for a very long time. She has over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. She has a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has homeschooled her own children from Pre-School through (their current) High School. All of her classes are interactive. Annette encourages students to fully participate in class. All of her classes feature hands-on activities and books Annette writes for the class herself.

Annette is a published writer, publisher, and artist. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience to create unique classes for every student. She enjoys teaching science, history, art, and cooking classes. She brings history alive with her "Big History ..." classes where students learn about key times in history and complete hands-on projects. "Paint like ... Famous Artists" art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.

Annette also has experience working with Special Needs children. She is Mom to a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs. She also has worked with children with ADHD. If your child has special needs, please contact Annette so she can work with you and your child.

Annette has completed Continuing Education Certification with OER's Big History and World History Projects and the NMNA's Foundation for Teaching and Learning about Native Americans. She completed her Best Start in Life: Early Childhood Development certificate. She is currently working on certifications for working with special needs children and early education, & a TEFL certification.

Annette the Teacher is a Licensed Pilot and a Licensed Ground School Instructor.

Supplies for the daily projects. Please have the supplies ready prior to class. Day 1: 1 plastic or paper disposable drinking straw (non-bendable, long), 1 sheet of construction paper (any color), clear tape, safety scissors Day 2: Experiment 1: Two sheets of white paper / Experiment 2: 1 piece of construction paper, clear tape / Project: 1 plastic or paper disposable drinking straw (non-bendable), 1 piece of construction paper, 1-2 paper clips, clear tape, safety scissors, Printout Winged Plane Template Day 3: Printout of NASA's X-59 Template from the class page, safety scissors, clear tape Day 4: 2 Disposable Styrofoam cups (You can use disposable plastic cups, but they will not work as well.), tape, 6 feet of string, safety scissors Day 5: 1 Empty toilet paper tube, 1 popsicle or craft stick, 1 long thin rubber band, 1 paper clip, tape, 1 piece of paper - any color, Printout Rocket Template from the class page Optional - markers, crayons, or paints
If you need a formal assessment for your homeschool portfolio, please let me know prior to the start of class.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Scissors are used during our projects. If your student will need assistance using scissors safely, please have an adult nearby. Parents are required to remain off-camera during class.
