Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Students will learn about three famous artists - Monett, Picasso, and Van Gogh and the art movements they inspired. 

This class is a combination of Art History and painting. Students will explore the lives and art works of Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh, three of the most influential artists of the last 165 years. They will see works by these famous artists while developing a discerning eye for technique and appreciation of different kinds of art.

Students will also explore basic techniques in design and painting. Student will learn about the painter's tools including paints and media, brushes, and canvases. Students will create an art work inspired by each of the artists.

Introduction to Painting
 Students will learn about brushes, paints and media, and canvases

 Students will learn about the life of Monet and Impressionism while exploring his works throughout his career. Students will create their own Monet-inspired painting.

 Students will learn about the life of Picasso and Cubism while exploring his works throughout his career. Students will create their own Picasso-inspired painting.

 Students will learn about the life of Van Gogh and Post Impressionism while exploring his works throughout his career. Students will create their own Van Gogh-inspired painting.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students will be viewing age appropriate works by the artists we study. No graphic paintings will be shown.
Pre-Requisites
Students should know and understand the basics of painting.
Supply List
You will need:
A good set of acrylic paints
Paintbrushes 
Two cups half-filled with water
Paper towels
A plastic plate or a palette
White mixed Media art paper or heavy paper
A sharp pencil (2H or 4H)
An eraser (artist's eraser)

Paint colors for:
Lesson 2: Dark green, light green, purple, brown, pink
Lesson 3: 4-5 colors - student's choice
Lesson 4: Light blue, dark blue, yellow, orange, black - optional: dark green, white

Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Minors: Biology, Chemistry, and Writing
Annette the Teacher has over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. She has a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has homeschooled her own children from Pre-School through (their current) High School. All of her classes are interactive. Annette encourages students to fully participate in class. All of her classes feature hands-on activities and books Annette writes for the class.

Annette is a published writer and artist. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience to create unique classes for every student. She enjoys teaching science, history, art, and cooking classes. She brings history alive with her "Life in ..." history classes where students learn about key times in history by experiencing children and families' lives in that time period. "Paint like ..." art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Kid Cuisine classes are cooking classes for Young Chefs based on historic foods and science topics. Students should be prepared to make, explore, and create during class. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.
