This course consists of 6 piano lessons based on a downloadable piano book beginning with right hand C position. The learner will identify notes on the staff, note names, note duration and other related music theory concepts while learning to read music. The learner will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual (camera) to facilitate understanding throughout the lesson. The learner will read and play notes on the treble staff and bass staff in C position. National Music Standard MU:Pr6.1.2a Perform music for a specific purpose with expression and technical accuracy.
Learners are encouraged to practice in between lessons to maximize progress. Learners should practice both previous and new material each week and complete any theory assignments for their lesson. The learner will be given a practice log to record practice between lessons. The learner will also have a link to view video examples of each song. The pacing of the course will be individualized to each learner.
Learners need a piano/keyboard, binder or folder, and a pencil. Downloadable materials will be provided.
The learner will be informally assessed on demonstration of basic piano skills and formally assessed on identifying notes and identifying note values (activity sheets).
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
