Class Experience

This course consists of 6 piano lessons based on downloadable piano music. Lessons 7-12 will focus on the right hand and left hand C positions. Learners will identify notes on the staff, note names, and note duration as they learn to read music. Learners will learn at least 5 songs. Learners should practice between classes to improve their skills.

It would be helpful if the learner has basic reading skills and the ability to wait and listen while other learners perform as much learning comes from listening. While it is not required, individual playing will be optional throughout this course.

To be successful in this class, learners should have completed lessons 1-6 or have prior knowledge of the right hand C position notes.

Each class follows the basic outline below:
	1. Opening - Welcome, Practice Check (thumbs up if you practiced)
	2. Warm-Up - Review skills and music terms by playing warm-up songs and games
	3. Lesson - Review previous songs, Learn new songs, Learn related music terms and symbols
	4. Closing - Discuss practice assignments for the next class, Learners play additional songs for class as time allows

Throughout the lesson learners will be presented with visuals on the screen and a view of the teacher's piano. Learners will be guided through learning each song as they listen, repeat and put the song together through small steps. Learners will be given many opportunities to play for the class during the lesson.

Learners will be given a link for a web page where they can access videos of each song and other helpful resources.

Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.

I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
