The hardest part about music lessons is getting started and sticking with it. How many grown-ups do we know who say "I played piano as a kid, but let it go. I just didn't get into it." What a tragedy! This 10-week class is a continuation of Pre-Lesson Piano, for kids who would like to begin formally learning the piano! Starting musical training in early childhood with an instructor who deeply understands and designs activities around specific early childhood developmental stages offers kids a life-changing start to their musical journey. Topics that might be tedious or frustrating to learn in a traditional lesson settings, can be made FUN when you add community, creative expression and games. This class incorporates many of the activities kids have grown to love in Pre-Lesson Piano, but adds more complex concepts like take-home ear-training exercises, and basic written notation! Class begins each week with ice-breakers and warm-ups. Students will show off their weekly projects (which are provided in the student workbook!), learn relational tools for giving each other support, and learn about and hear some of the world's greatest piano players! In the first couple classes, we will review our common vocabulary: finger names, note names, treble clef, bass clef, etc. We will then begin using these new skills to help de-code simple melodies, and write our own! Take-home activities from the workbook also offer parent tips so that you can learn the instrument along with your child. Each week, students complete practice goals and complete a creative activity. Students will graduate from this class empowered, curious about, and inspired by the piano!
