During ZOOM, I will provide a break down of important vocabulary terms associated with Prime Factorization. Together, we will list the first four prime numbers from 2-10 since these are the most commonly used prime numbers when using factor trees. Next, I will demonstrate how to begin the factor tree and use “branches” to list more factors to break down the number we are factoring. I will explain how to list the final answers in both standard and exponential form. After that, we will work together using factor trees to build our skill. We will complete several examples until I feel students understand the skill. Finally, we will play a game on Quizizz to check students understanding.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to solve for prime factorization.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach math skills from 4th grade up to 6th grade.
I am a certified teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and I also have a Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies.
This is my ninth year teaching in the public school system.
My philosophy behind success in mathematics is the focus on vocabulary. I believe once students learn ‘math words’ they’re then more likely to understand what they’re being asked to do. Math is not always as simple as solving a problem.
I use the most random, hilarious examples to help students remember certain skills, functions, and vocabulary words!
