This course will teach preteens how to read social cues, greet, initiate/maintain conversations, identify expected/unexpected behaviors, and more. Resources will include videos, PDFs of resources, and written posts. Extensive research on the effects of social skills instruction on preteens with these challenges shows that social skills instructional programs are effective in reducing experiences of school failure or rejection as well as the aggressiveness and isolation that often develop because of problems relating to others. The curriculum is as follows: 1. Greetings, initiating a conversation, and maintaining a conversation 2. Verbal/nonverbal social cues (e.g., facial expressions, body language) 3. Expected versus unexpected behaviors, using our social filter 4. Conflict resolution, big vs. small problems
