Oftentimes, this means playing with items other than toys and making messes! Although children can learn a lot, it sometimes creates havoc for the adults! In this class, we will have activities and ideas of ways to play with items that aren't usually considered toys. We will play with these items in a safe and constructive way to enable children to have a...
Learners will engage in sensory play, which allows them to actively use multiple senses (see, hear, smell, touch, taste) as they explore our materials of the week as well as the world around them. They will practice social skills with introductions and show & tell. They will make observations as they engage in sensory play. They will improve on body and environmental awareness. Engaging in sensory play leads to a smoother transition into more complex activities as the learner gets older. These include complex and multi-step learning, cognitive growth, language, gross motor, fine motor, and problem solving skills.
Supplies will vary week to week. I will focus on common household supplies so it is easy to get supplies. It is also recommended that learners keep supplies in a storage bin for continued play throughout the week.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There may be class sessions where materials needed for class can be messy. It is advised the learner have a space to play that is free of obstacles. It is also advised that items such as cookie pans, towels, craft mats, or storage bins are used for easier clean up. Learners also have the option to be outside for class as well.
