In reading, students will: -Build accuracy recognizing letters and their sounds through corresponding sounds -Build comprehension skills by listening to and responding to stories -Begin identifying high frequency sight words -Build fine motor skills In math, students will: -Build accuracy identifying numbers -Build number correspondence skills -Learn fundamental skills like repeating patterns, basic addition and subtraction, beginning fractions In science and social studies, students will learn about various topics including: -Animal habitats and life cycles -Weather and seasons -Plant life cycle -The solar system -The five senses -Community helpers -Wants and needs -Geography For life skills, students will: -Build self-confidence -Practice effective social/conversation skills and turn-taking
I am a fully licensed special education teacher for grades K-12 who currently holds a Bachelor’s of Arts. I have over 13 years experience teaching children. I have taught preschool in childcare centers as well as elementary schools. For the last 8 years, I have taught in a K-5 special education classroom (adaptive curriculum) in all subject areas. I have been trained in sensory integration, alternate assessments, data collection, and project-based learning.
Homework Offered
Learners are provided with a 2-4 page weekly supplement packets after each class as well as at-home extension activities or a weekly Kahoot, that reinforces what was covered in class. Learners are able to complete these supplemental tasks, if they would like to, at their leisure.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

Learners will need something to complete a writing task daily (paper and writing utensil, dry erase board and marker, etc.) Learners will also need two index cards each week for our letter and sight word of the week. If any craft supplies or worksheets are needed, parents will be notified a week ahead of class in preparation.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Parental guidance may be needed to assist learners with muting or unmuting themselves, and possibly completing hands-on tasks. Learners may also be assigned a Kahoot game as a part of their supplemental weekly work. No account is required to access Kahoot.
