In this ongoing course, learners will join me on an adventure as they learn music fundamentals. This class is designed for learners with or without musical experience. The class structure will begin with a student-led discussion followed by jumping straight into the ice breaker and then moving on to the core lesson as everyone is ready. Each student will take turns introducing themselves and dancing (if they choose). We will sing some of the same songs each session for continuity but every session will introduce new songs. This will be a jam packed 25 minutes with almost nonstop dancing and singing. Each session will also touch on rhythm reading concepts and end with a cool down period with a coloring sheet (students can just draw if printing the sheet is not possible). No prior knowledge of the topic is required. My teaching style is learner centered. If you tell learners all of the concepts, they may learn, but when involved in the process, they retain the concepts forever. My goal is for every learner to feel empowered to sing on their own, to think more critically and to gain curiosity to learn more.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of finding the beat, keeping a steady beat and how to read quarter and eighth notes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi All!
I am Ms. Key and I enjoy creating engaging learning experiences that leave learners with enough to feed their curiosity and keep learning and growing. I teach a large variety of classes for all ages largely centered around music. I am sensitive to the fact that there are neuro-diverse learners of all ages and if your learner (or you if you are signing yourself up!) needs accommodations, I embrace that. I am only one message away, please do not be shy, I will always work hard to accomplish a great class for all learners.
I’ve taught music in International Schools in South Korea and in the inner city in the United States. My experience spans ages 3-18 and I also hold a certification to teach music Pre K-12 vocal and instrumental. I am also currently working toward a masters of science in Special Education.
My teaching philosophy is a vision of creating experiences that facilitate growth. As teachers we are tasked with creating bite sized experiences that weave together to help learners to gain new insights that can ultimately bring them to the point of being able to continue on their own. In short, I want to spark insights, curiosity and understanding and watch them grow, much like a gardener of minds. Students are already so amazingly talented and unique, I just have to find the right way to nurture that, which looks different from learner to learner.
I love to travel and will try eating anything at least once as long as it is safe for human consumption. Okay maybe not ANYTHING....I once visited a beautiful country where they sold cooked bugs on a skewer as street food and I put my foot down, but that’s another story for another day!
