I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas, with an endorsement in gifted education. I have been teaching in public and private schools for over 30 years. I decided to become an elementary teacher because I love the variety of topics that I get to teach. I don't enjoy teaching the same thing over and over again each day. That's why you will see that I offer math, science, language arts, and art/craft classes. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and elementary education from Texas Wesleyan University, and a masters degree in educational psychology from Texas A&M Commerce. I am an expert in learning and memory. I absolutely LOVE teaching, and have found new life with Outschool.
There is no assigned homework. Students may wish to continue working on problems and activities from class after class is over, but this is not a requirement.
1. Students will need a large set of Cuisenaire rods. The beginner sets usually don't have enough blocks to make numbers greater than 50. While our focus is on numbers 1-20, it is desirable to have a larger set so that students can explore larger numbers when they are ready. I suggest a set that has at least 10 of each color block. (There are 10 colors.) 2. You will need access to a PRINTER. Each class will have work mats and activity sheets that need to be printed prior to class. 3. Colored pencils: Orange, blue, brown, black, dark green, light green, purple, red, yellow, and white. 4. Centimeter graph paper
At the end of the course I will provide each student with a rubric that identifies areas of strengths and weaknesses. This will give parents an idea of what their child needs to work on and what courses/topics are appropriate to continue expanding their mathematical skills and understanding.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
