Welcome to Drop-In Circle Time! This class is all about spiders! We will begin with our greetings and name song to get to know each other. Every learner will be encouraged to tell the group what their favorite insect is. Next, we will do some fun songs and fingerplays about spiders, including (of course) The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Math awareness activities will include one-to-one counting, number recognition, and rote counting using spider’s legs. We will also do number and size sequencing. For Science, we will collaborate and list facts that we know about spiders, such as where they live, what they eat, their characteristics, and their life cycle. These facts will be written on the whiteboard so learners can visualize what they share and see how many facts we can produce. Everyone will get the chance to share what they learned in class before saying goodbye. During this class, learners will have a chance to meet new friends while exploring a popular topic. Everyone is encouraged to participate in all activities. There will be visual aids in the form of hand and finger movements, screen-shared slides with animation, and sound effects. Discussion is encouraged! All materials will be screen-shared by the teacher. Learners will need nothing outside of the Outschool Zoom’s classroom.
