Class Experience

In this one-time class, learners will enjoy an Author Study Double Feature where we read two books by the same author. This time we will be reading Mo Willems Elephant and Piggie book “I Am Invited to a Party” and “The Pigeon Wants a Puppy.” We will begin our class with our Welcome and Hello Songs. Then, we will read the two stories. We will talk about the characters in the stories and which ones are our favorite (Piggy, Elephant, or Pigeon). Together, we will use a tally chart and make a bar graph about our favorite characters.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am passionate about early childhood literacy and literacy has always been an integral part of my classroom. I have seven years teaching experience with preschool-aged children. I hold a Professional Educators license with endorsements in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a concentration in Reading and Language Arts. I will be doing focused story times often integrating reading with math, science, and social studies. I will also be doing “double features” which feature two books that are the same in some way: topic, author, or series. My favorite is reading a fiction and non-fiction book on the same topic. This is a fun way to introduce young readers to non-fiction. My classes are interactive with songs and games. I enjoy traveling and going to museums and plays.
