In this class that meets four days a week, we will learn a letter and letter sounds, numbers, colors and a theme that we will learn a little more about each day! Bring drawing materials as we make a picture too! Join or unsubscribe any time! Please see the topics covered each week. Studies show that it's beneficial to introduce a letter sound with the letter name (both upper and lower case) so we will be working on listening for letter sounds. This is a class for pre readers learning the very basics of letters, numbers etc., therefore it may be too simple if you have an early reader, however, we do work on listening for the letter sounds and writing numbers and letters. Two letters are introduced each week along with a number and some math skills. We will also do a color scavenger hunt which will be a surprise color or letter sound each day. The same format will be followed in each class with the letter/color/numbers varying along with a varying lesson of the week. Usually these will center around science and social studies as we explore the world we live in. Children at this age range need to be kept active and engaged in class. Having markers or crayons with paper is a great way to keep hands busy in class! Bring your drawing pad, writing pad and crayons or markers! It is important that students have a chance to express themselves. In all my classes, I strive to involve and call on each learner, keeping them engaged in class through questions, motion and my puppet friend, Bird! I want to build in a lot of talk time for them to contribute ideas and any prior knowledge as well. I have had great success using drawing as a tool and find that even when a learner isn't confident in how to draw something, at this age, they are very willing to try and get excited to show their work and talk about it. There are times when we'll use other mediums such as Play Doh and these will be listed for each class. About mics: Young learners often require parental assistance or conversation during class. In these cases, there are times when I will need to mute the mic and will then ask them to unmute. Helping your learner understand how to unmute will be helpful to them! I like to keep open mics since interaction is important, but there will be times when mute is used. Class format as follows. Monday: One letter introduced and practiced, color break and theme work Tuesday: Math: One number introduced as previous numbers may be reviewed. Counting practice as well as patterns and other early math skills. Theme work. Wednesday: Monday's letter reviewed and second letter introduced. Theme work. Thursday: Review day of both letters, number work and listening skills practiced as we read an original story based on the week's theme. Each class will have interaction time throughout as class sizes are kept small. A different song will be learned each week as well. We'll do a daily prize from the prize can and collect them up during the week! IF you are interested in "trying out" this class, I run a one day a week circle time and have some spots available for that. Weekly themes: Week of September 5 -11 (A/B, 1,2,3) Theme: "How are you?" Learn about feelings Week of September 8 - 14 (C, D, 4) Theme: "Weather" (learn about various kinds of weather) Week of September 15 - 21) (E, F, 5) Theme: "Forest Animals" (learn about common North American forest animals) Week of September 22 - 28 (G, H, 6) Theme: "In the Sky" (learn about planets, the sun, stars and moon) There is one review worksheet each week that you can either print or just do it right on your computer with your child. If your child is ready to start writing letters, rather than uploading worksheets that can be expensive for parents to keep printing over time, I recommend buying an inexpensive preschool writing workbook. A great example is "My First Learn To Write Workbook" available on Amazon for under $6. Any dry erase writing book is also acceptable for practice.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello from beautiful northern New Jersey! I'm excited at the opportunity to continue to bring a love for learning to children after homeschooling my own children for the past 20 years. Since 2017, I have taught over 5700 classes to Chinese students ages 3 to 15. I have a BA degree in Elementary Education and English Writing (dual major) and an American Literature minor from William Paterson University in New Jersey. I have a New Jersey teaching license for grades K-8, and TESOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.
As my children grew, I did a lot of volunteer teaching which includes several years of teaching preschool/kindergarten VBS (Vacation Bible School) and Sunday school classes, as well as teaching Pioneer Girls. In each of these, I heavily incorporated arts, crafts and hands on participation into our curriculum. I also taught a Sunday school class for special needs children for five years. This experience has given me an understanding of children with learning and behavioral challenges. Preschool aged children have always held a special place in my heart in my teaching experience with VIPKID, and I have incorporated puppets, art, and a lot of humor into my online classroom with them with great results. When I can get a belly laugh out of a student online, my whole day is made! My teaching style is low pressure with lots of positive encouragement, as I strive to help every child feel that they have something valuable to contribute.
When I was 12 years old, I discovered what would turn into my lifelong passion; antiques and history. In my early teens, I devoured every book in the library that I could find about antique dolls and toys. When I grew into adulthood, I channeled my obsession into a business and since 1997, I have owned Suburban Treasure, an online antique and collectibles business. I am also a professional antique doll restorationist.
In addition, I am also a self taught artist and since 2004, have created art dolls in my studio "Spring Valley Studios Sasha Dolls". My dolls have found their ways into collectors' homes all over the world!
My childhood interests shaped my future career. I realized in my own children that I very much wanted to foster in them that same love and desire for learning. I try to carry that passion into my classroom! My heart is in preschool and kindergarten aged learners and I have discovered truly how much I love this age group as I have been teaching it almost exclusively here on Outschool!
I hope to see your child soon in the classroom!
