Class Experience

In this fun interactive preschool class, we'll work on developmentally-appropriate math skills. Some of these skills include: number recognition, counting, building a pattern, sorting by size/color/shape, one-to-one correspondence (where a student can point to individual items and say a number for each item, counting up as they go), and simple measurement. We'll work on these skills through songs and fun games and actvities. Students will need something to use as math counters for this class (blocks, play cars, buttons, mini erasers, etc.) and crayons/markers and paper or a whiteboard and markers. Students are also invited to bring a stuffed animal to class, to "learn" alongside them.

This will be a fun interactive class where students are encouraged to participate. Individual math topics will be covered in all classes, so feel free to come and go in this ongoing class as it fits your schedule.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Heather, and I am an online educator and a Mom. I have my Lead Teacher Preschool certificate, and am in the process of becoming a certified Early Childhood Education teacher. Before I became interested in teaching Preschool, I earned both a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Science, and held positions in Environmental Education (teaching hands-on Science classes to young kids) and in Environmental Policy (writing legislation to make our world a little better). When I'm not teaching, I like to spend time with my family (and dog Gracie!) kayaking, hiking, gardening, quilting, and cooking.

My passion now is to teach young children not only important skills like their numbers and letters, but also to teach them how to form connections with each other. So while we'll learn about colors and shapes and work on pre-writing skills, we'll also work on social-emotional skills like learning how to share and how to wait our turn.

Children learn through play, and we’ll do plenty of that in my classes! My preschool classes will be taught in an interactive form, with the children getting a chance to learn while having fun. I'll be teaching classes that include Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Movement.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of your children, and teaching them in a supportive and fun learning environment!
