In this one time preschool story time class learners will listen to a read-aloud of the Little Critter book: “The Fall Festival” by Mercer Mayer where Little Critter and his family pick apples, visit a Pumpkin Patch, and play games at a fall festival. We will talk about the things the learners like to do in Fall. Then we will play “Roll and Cover.” Learners have a game board with apples that have the numbers one through 6 on them. (The game board can be printed from the class page. Please print 2 copies as we will play one to two games.) Learners will take turns rolling the dice and calling out the number on the dice. The learner who rolled the dice then covers or circles that number each time it appears on their card. The first player to cover all their numbers wins.
Learning Goals
Learners will practice:
- listening skills
- comprehension skills
- turn taking
- number recognition (numbers 1-6)
- recognize one-to-one correspondence of numbers 1 to 6

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am passionate about early childhood literacy and literacy has always been an integral part of my classroom. I have seven years teaching experience with preschool-aged children. I hold a Professional Educators license with endorsements in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a concentration in Reading and Language Arts. I will be doing focused story times often integrating reading with math, science, and social studies. I will also be doing “double features” which feature two books that are the same in some way: topic, author, or series. My favorite is reading a fiction and non-fiction book on the same topic. This is a fun way to introduce young readers to non-fiction. My classes are interactive with songs and games. I enjoy traveling and going to museums and plays.
