Join us on a 2 day/week excursion where we will journey on a learning expedition discovering the Earth's natural habitats and the plants and animals who live here while exploring with our 5 senses! (8 week class)

Class Experience

WEEK 1: OCEAN

EVERY DAY:  Bring an object to class that represents the ocean to SHOW AND TELL about!

DAY 1:  
* Bring a water bottle filled with water and a salt shaker (filled with salt) to class today.
* Bring Goldfish crackers  ("Multicolored work great!) and 2 other types of finger food snacks that you like! (chocolate chips, raisins, 
   nuts, etc.)

DAY 2: 
* Wear something that is ocean related to class! (We will talk about ideas on Day 1).
* Print out the template posted in CLASSROOM (sea star) and bring it with a small handful (preferable in a bag/container) of dirt or 
  sand, crayons or colored pencils, and a glue stick.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

WEEK 2: DESERT

EVERY DAY:  Bring an object to class that represents the desert for "Show and Tell"!

DAY 1: Bring ingredients for "desert cup snack" to class today.  (1graham cracker in a plastic/paper/cloth small bag or mugh. Spoon handy exp. if using the mug!)

DAY 2:   Wear something that is "Desert" related to class!   (We will talk about ideas on what to wear on Day 1).  
              - Bring printed out (2) templates (cactus, jackrabbit)  1 cotton ball and 1 or 2 pipe cleaners (any color but green is best) or 
              pine needles or grass (5 -10 pieces)  cut into separate 1" pieces, glue stick and crayons or colored pencils.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

WEEK 3: MOUNTAINS

EVERY DAY: Bring an object to class that represents the mountains for "Show and Tell"!

DAY 1:  Bring ingredients for "camping in the mountains snack" to class today.  ( 2 graham crackers, 1 big marshmallow and a 
             chocolate candy square.) 

DAY 2:  Wear something that is "mountain" related to class!  (We will talk about ideas on what to wear on Day 1.) 
            - Bring a cup of hot cocoa or chocolate milk to class today.  
            - Print out template of mug (will be posted to CLASSROOM page at least 3 days in advance) and bring to class with a 1/4 tsp 
              of cocoa powder or hot chocolate and between 1-3 mini marshmallows, crayons or colored pencils, and glue stick.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

WEEK 4: JUNGLE

EVERY DAY: Bring an object to class that represents the jungle for "Show and Tell"!

DAY 1: Bring ingredients for snack: Bring 2 or 3 multicolored finger food snacks - (fruit snacks, fruits, veggies, cereal, etc.)

DAY 2:  Wear something that is "jungle"  related to class! (We will talk abut ideas on what to wear on Day 1.)
           - Print out template of poison dart frog (will be posted to the CLASSROOM page at least 3 days in advance) and bring to 
             class along with glue stick, crayons or colored pencils.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

WEEK 5: ARCTIC:

EVERY DAY: Bring an object to class that represents the arctic for "Show and Tell"!

DAY 1: Bring ingredients for snack: Any flavor of goldfish crackers will work + up to 2 other snacks learner likes

DAY 2:  Wear something that is "arctic" related to class! (We will talk abut ideas on what to wear on Day 1.)
           - Print out template of puffin (will be posted to the CLASSROOM page at least 3 days in advance) and bring to class with 3 to 
             5 sticks (found outside), glue stick, crayons or colored pencils.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

WEEK 6: SAVANNA
EVERY DAY: Bring an object to class that represents the savanna!
                                   
DAY 1:  Bring animal crackers and up to 2 other kinds of finger food snacks!

DAY 2:  - Wear something that is "savanna inspired" to class! 
            - Print out template of zebra (will be posted to the CLASSROOM page at least 3 days in advance) and bring to 
             class along with glue stick, crayons or colored pencils and up to 10 real pieces of leaves or grass.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

WEEK 7: WETLANDS

EVERY DAY: Bring an object to class that represents the wetlands!
                                   
DAY 1:  Bring edible seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, etc.)  and up to 2 other kinds of finger food snacks!

DAY 2:  - Wear something that is "wetlands inspired" to class! 
            - Print out template of wood duck (will be posted to the CLASSROOM page at least 3 days in advance) and bring to 
             class along with glue stick, crayons or colored pencils and up to 10 real pieces of leaves or grass and 3-5 seeds of any kind.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

WEEK 8: YOUR YARD

EVERY DAY: Bring an object to class that represents the area outside of your home! (Front yard, backyard, nearby park!) 

DAY 1:   Bring 3 different types of fruits to class today from the following list: apple, pear, plum, strawberry, orange (Pick your favorite 
              3 and bring enough to take 1 bite out of each fruit.  If it is easier to have them cut into a bite sized piece ahead of time, feel 
             free to do so.  Fruit snacks or other colorful foods will work as well!) 
DAY 2:  - Wear something that is "yard inspired" to class! 
             - Bring plain white sheet of paper, 10 blades of grass or leaves (or both!) glue stick, crayons or colored pencils, stickers or 
               cut outs (illustrations or photos) of bugs/insects.

*All items are optional but are intentionally planned to support learning by using all of our 5 senses in the classroom!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
   
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
An adult may want to be in the same room as their learner in case of any technical difficulties.
