In this ongoing Preschool Art Class we will learn to draw lots of adorable things using basic shapes. This is a class for students still learning to draw basic shapes. The majority of my students in this class do not draw art that is easily recognizable when they enroll. Parents should expect they may need to help since fine motor skills are only being learned at this age. How this class works: At the beginning of class students will be given up to a minute to share anything that is special to them: A new piece of artwork, the family pet, a trip they are going on, a lost tooth, or whatever currently has them excited. Next we will draw the shapes we are going to use in the day's drawing and draw them at the top of our papers (or frequently all over our page). We will then do a step by step drawing together. This drawing will be an animal, object, plant, or other fun creatures. The drawing will change from week to week and I will have a sample prepared prior to class's start which I will use to show the steps and explain to your child what we will be doing and how we will be doing it. If there is time we will color together and name the colors as we go. If we do not finish students will be encouraged to finish it after class and save it to share at the beginning of our next class together. I have 2 cameras set up, one that shows my face, and one focused on my drawing. I will switch to my drawing video when we start to draw step by step together. I will switch back to my regular view when we are done so that I can highlight each student's work. I will find something to praise in their drawing and then move to the next student. I only use positive reinforcement and positive regard in my young artist classes. My goal is to always encourage young artists into building their skills and that only happens with time and practice. I do not expect perfection and for many younger students I don't even expect drawings that look remotely similar to mine. The goal is that over time students will get better fine motor control and be more able to draw things that are identifiable. When a student is ready for the next level of drawing class I will refer you to my next class level up from this one but that process may take a while when the student is still learning. It is very important to be very good at drawing basic shapes and to master this level so that your child can be successful with future drawing. We will be learning our basic shapes and how to make them. We will learn to use shapes as the building blocks for more complex drawings. We will start to improve our motor control. We will work on learning colors. We will build young artists perception of their strengths and abilities.
Learning Goals
Fine Motor Skills Development: Drawing involves using small muscle movements, which helps children refine their motor skills, aiding in activities like writing later on.
Creativity Enhancement: Drawing classes encourage children to express themselves creatively, fostering imagination and original thinking from an early age.
Cognitive Development: Drawing stimulates cognitive processes such as problem-solving, spatial awareness, and decision-making as children plan and execute their drawings.
Language Development: Through drawing, children often narrate stories or describe their artwork, which enhances their vocabulary and language skills.
Emotional Expression: Drawing provides a non-verbal outlet for children to express their emotions and feelings, helping them to understand and manage their emotions better.
Confidence Building: Success in drawing tasks boosts children's confidence and self-esteem, as they see tangible results of their efforts.
Socialization: Drawing classes provide opportunities for children to interact with peers, sharing ideas, learning from each other, and developing social skills like cooperation and communication.
Attention Span Improvement: Engaging in drawing activities can help children develop longer attention spans and focus as they concentrate on their artwork.
Preparation for School: Drawing classes can serve as a gentle introduction to structured learning environments, helping children adapt to routines and following instructions, which can ease their transition into formal schooling.

Supply List
Please make sure your child is ready at the start of each class :) I recommend 2 pieces of paper, a pencil with an eraser, and I have a personal preference for colored pencils over markers as markers destroy a student's hard work when used.
