Class Experience This is a fun and interactive class about backyard chickens! We’ll sing songs, read original stories, explore puppets and do finger rhymes featuring these friendly pets. We will discuss the care, feeding and environment a backyard chicken needs to thrive. We’ll explore chicken habits and likes and dislikes (yes! chickens have opinions!). Did you know that a chicken’s appearance holds clues to what color her egg will be? Did you know some people keep chickens as indoor pets and even potty train their hens? We’ll talk about all of this and more. Let’s learn about backyard chickens!
Learning Goals
Students will learn basics of chicken care. Early literacy and public speaking skills will be strengthened. Learners will be introduced to original poems and songs about chickens.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Stephanie and I love sharing stories, movement activities, art and songs with young children and their families. I have experience homeschooling my own children and working in all kinds of educational settings. From Montessori and traditional classrooms to playhouse stages to rustic beachside homeschool group meet-ups, I have helped support early literacy, performing arts, and self-confidence in children through creative learning. Multicultural stories, songs, finger plays and STEM/STEAM and movement activities allow a special connection between class participants of all ages. I studied vocal music at Interlochen Arts Academy, have a BA in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Michigan State University, Montessori Primary Certification and my AAS in Early Childhood. I’ve worked with children and families for almost 30 years on 3 continents! I love to sing (of course!), garden, cook, read, travel, wander through dunes and along beaches. I am married and have 3 children, 2 rescue dogs, and a small flock of backyard chickens. I can’t wait to meet you!
