In this Music class, students will strengthen various musical concepts, while singing, tapping rhythms, playing bells, playing games, and storytelling! The class structure may look something like this: A "Welcome" song; Vocal warmups; a rhythmic concept for sight singing music; learn a note and play the bells with that note; play a game; read a story; sing the "Goodbye Song" (not in this particular order). Concepts will include: Note reading Solfege and Hand Signs Nursery Rhymes Songs/Chants Beat vs Rhythm Types of voices Matching pitch Highs and lows Fast and slows within music, and more! Weekly Concepts:* 1st Week (8/22): Introduction to Singing and Rhythm 2nd Week (8/29): Intro to C or Do 3rd Week (9/5): Vocal Warmups 4th Week (9/12): Intro to D or Re *Weekly concepts may change. Bells will need to be purchased for this to play the songs in each key. There is also an App with the Bells that can be download on Apple Products for free. Note: Students may need to be muted while we are singing/listening to songs or music books. Various opportunities are given for learners to participate out loud, and will be asked to unmute at different times during class. Ideally, parents should be close by to assist, but are not allowed on screen. The books that are read are singing books, focus on learning Solfege (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do). Examples are So-Mi Books are "So-Mi in Space," and “So-Mi Meets the Boss.” We follow the Preschool Prodigies Music Curriculum as well as the MusicPlayOnline Curriculum. This class includes videos that will be played within this class to follow along with (see sources). Please email me if you'd like to request a time for this class. No previous skills are needed. This is an ongoing class, and students may enroll at any time, and most topics that are taught are new. I use a full year (August through May) preschool Music Curriculum, and previous concepts may also be re-introduced each week. Note: Students may need to be muted while we are singing/listening to songs or music books. Various opportunities are given for learners to participate out loud, and will be asked to unmute at different times during class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
I am an educator at heart! I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. I've played piano and have sung professionally in various settings: churches, jazz bands, and more. I have over 20 years in teaching music in schools and in my private studio. I've taught general music classes, music appreciation, music theory, choirs, group piano, private singing, and piano lessons. I've been a Fine Arts Director at a K-12 school for the last 5 years in Florida, as well as teaching in my studio online, and after school.
Why take my classes?
My classes are relaxed, engaging, and fun! Lessons include learning a variety of different styles of music. Classical, jazz, pop music are just some of the styles that I introduce.
Most classes will focus on:
• How to read music
• How to sing and play a variety of songs
• How to move and play different rhythmic patterns
• How to improvise
• How to perform for others
• How to play with skill and technique
I am a wife of a husband who's a musician, and a homeschool mom of three, with all of my children learning to play the piano, singing, and playing drums. They were born into it! I strongly believe in creating an environment that supports and promotes an overall love of learning. Fostering a space that invites students to create, play, and learn to love the gift of music is my goal. I recognize the infinite potential that each student has, and believe that learning music can open many doors in the world around us.
I hope to meet you soon!
