Description

Class Experience

Students will gain a better understanding of...
1) A collegiate classroom environment (in the humanities)
2) Successful student habits
3) Research methods
4) Source evaluation
5) Writing skills (both global and local concerns)
6) Reading strategies
I am a Ph.D. candidate in English at the University of Kentucky. I have taught freshman English at both U.K. and Virginia Tech, where I received my master's degree in English.
Each week, students will have 1-2 assigned readings. Combined, these will not exceed 10 pages. Additionally, I'll offer optional weekly assignments, geared toward applying course principles. These assignments will take roughly an hour for students to complete.
I will supply a course syllabus during the first class session. This document will include all resources.
I will provide an end-of-course review for each student, emphasizing their strengths as well as identifying areas for improvement. This will be a personal video (I can adjust the medium if desired, i.e. I'm glad to do a write-up instead).
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
All readings will be provided in PDF form or through free online links.
