Preparing for Algebra I (Summer Class)
In this 6 weeks summer class, students will prepare students for Algebra I by building a strong foundation in key concepts from solving expressions and inequalities to exploring quadratic functions engaging lessons and practical exercises.
What's included
24 live meetings
22 in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be assigned for each class.Assessment
The course is structured to include weekly assessments that focus on the topic covered during each week. This approach allows the instructor to evaluate students' understanding, provide timely feedback, and ensure mastery of the material before advancing to subsequent topics.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Students will engage in interactive activities that reinforce core math topics, offering multiple opportunities to practice in a fun and memorable way. Each class is designed to boost math skills in an engaging environment, with an initial assessment on the first day to ensure every student is placed at the appropriate level. Class format 1. Warm Up: Students will complete a review question from previous lesson that will guide into the lesson. Teacher will review the warm up and answer student questions (10 minutes) 2. Introduction New Concept: Teacher will instruct the "I do" format on teaching the mathematical concept and transition to the "we do" format. Teacher and student will work together to complete problem set questions. (35 minutes) 3. Exit Ticket: This will be the "you do" format. Students will have the opportunity to complete a problem on their own and the teacher will check their answer. (10 minutes) 4. Review Homework: During this time the teacher will review the homework and answer any questions students might have. (5 minutes)
Learning Goals
Week 1: Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities in One Variable
Learners will master the manipulation and simplification of algebraic expressions, solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, and apply fundamental algebraic properties to eval
Week 2: Equations and Inequalities in Two Variables
Learners will extend their problem-solving techniques to systems of equations and inequalities involving two variables, interpret solutions graphically on the coordinate plane, and understand the relatio

Curriculum
Follows Eureka Math CurriculumStandards
Aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS)24 Lessons
over 6 WeeksLesson 1:
Polynomial Expressions
Students examine the place value structure of the base–10 number system by rewriting numbers in expanded form. Students use this structure to make sense of polynomial expressions, referred to as numbers in base , and compare the place value structure in both types of expressions.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Adding and Subtracting Polynomial Expressions
Students examine the process of adding numbers in base 10 written in expanded form and use the structure to make sense of adding polynomial expressions. Students then build procedural fluency by adding and subtracting polynomial expressions.

Lesson 3:
Multiplying Polynomial Expressions
Students use their previous experience with the area model to multiply integers and build connections between integer multiplication and polynomial multiplication.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Writing and Solving Equations in One Variable
Students will create equations in one variable and use them to solve problems.
