Class Experience
Course Purpose: - Preparation for The Royal Conservatory Level 9 Harmony examination. Course Material: Week 1 and 2 - The principles of 4-part (SATB) writing; how the voices fit and move together in an appropriate manner Throughout the course - The construction and use of various chords: I, ii and ii7, iii, IV, V and V7, vi, vii and their inversions Week 3 and 4 - The construction and use of secondary dominants and how to modulate to different keys Throughout the course - Two-part...
This is a twelve-week course will prepare you for RCM Level 9 Harmony and Counterpoint examination. You will learn 4-part harmonic writing, two-part counterpoint, composition, form and analysis and more.
Assignments will be made from the RCM Level 9 Harmony and Counterpoint text. Students will benefit from completing all the exercises in each unit. Students should expect to read 5 to 10 pages a week and complete at least as many pages of exercises.
Homework feedback and an eventual "mock exam" will give students a clear picture of their progress.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
