How Outschool Works
Don't see a time that works for you?
My class opens with a good morning song, followed by a review of the calendar and weather. Next, we move on to the letter and number of the week. When introducing a new letter, I follow the traditional Montessori method, with a heavy emphasis on phonics. Each circle time is a completely isolated experience that does not build on knowledge from the previous class. Although consistent attendance is recommended, students are able to join or leave the program at any time. My classes are...
I have over 10 years of experience as an educator, both in the public and private sector, and specialize in creating Montessori-inspired environments that allow all children to flourish, both emotionally and intellectually. As a facilitator, I believe that it is most beneficial to provide children with developmentally appropriate experiences structured around play, rather than “instruction.” This is why the majority of my lessons and activities consist of songs, stories, and hands-on exploration. I have a Master of Science in Education: Early Childhood Education, Birth-Grade 2, and am New York state-certified, Birth through Grade 2.
1. Work tray materials are usually common household items, but they will always be posted a week in advance. 2. Students will need a work tray to complete their activities: I recommend this Montessori wooden tray ($19.49): https://www.amazon.com/Quality-Wooden-Internal-Dimensions-inches/dp/B00HEGBHYG/ref=sr_1_24?dchild=1&keywords=wooden+work+tray&qid=1606578086&sr=8-24 or this plastic cafeteria tray, which is a plus for messy work ($3.89): https://www.amazon.com/Carlisle-CT141805-Caf%C3%A9-Standard-Cafeteria/dp/B00FRIASHU/ref=sr_1_11?crid=Q2E4JNJXKFQC&dchild=1&keywords=plastic+cafeteria+tray&qid=1606578181&sprefix=plastic+caf%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-11 But a baking sheet will always work just fine!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
