Prek & Kindergarten Prep Math Class: Addition, Subtraction, Coins, Time & More!

Get ready for kindergarten with this ongoing math class! PreK & K students will learn addition, subtraction, skip counting, coins, telling time to the hour & 2D/3D shapes. Taught by a certified teacher.

Class Experience

This ongoing PreK & Kinder Prep math class will meet 1 times a week for 30 minutes each class.  Ongoing classes are great because you can take part in the whole course or just take part of the course.  You can decide.  This ongoing preschool class is great for an older preschool student, Pre-K (4 & 5 year old's) or a kindergartener needing some math review.  This course is designed to introduce beginning math concepts to Pre-K students getting ready for kindergarten or for a kindergarten student needing review.  

During the ongoing class, students will be participating in fun, exciting and engaging activities!  The students will learn new math skills each week, and then will review skills throughout classes to continue maintaining math skills.  Games, activities, whole group instruction and individual practice will be used in this ongoing class.  Materials will also be provided outside of class time for students to continue to practice working on skills.  

Class Structure:
Introductions & Welcome
Warm Up (Review Skills, writing numbers, counting etc.)
Rhyme/Song/Finger Play
Teaching Math Skill
Whole Group Practice 
Individual Practice
Sharing Work with classmates
Goodbyes/Closing

Materials needed for each weeks' class will be posted on the Sunday by 5pm (PST) in the classroom.  *You will need access to a printer as each class will have 1-2 printouts.  Other materials needed each week: spiral notebook for warm-ups, pencil, crayons, scissors, glue, & 10 counters.  Other materials will be posted in the classroom.

Fall Schedule:
Week 1: Sept 7: Counting by 1s, & Pattern Practice, Writing Numbers 1-2
Week 2: Sept 14: Counting by 10s, 2D & 3D Shapes, Writing Numbers 3-4
Week 3: Sept 21: Counting by 5s, Counting 10 Frames, Writing Numbers 5-6
Week 4: Sept 28:  Counting by 2s, Introduction to Addition, Writing Numbers 7-8
Week 5: October 5: Coin Penny, Skip Counting Review, Addition Continued, Writing Numbers 9-10
Week 6: October 12: Coin Dime, Counting by 10s, Introduction to Subtraction, Writing Numbers 11-12
Week 7: October 19: Coin Nickel, Counting by 5s, Subtraction Continued, Writing Numbers 13-14
Week 8: October 26: Game Week!  Digital Games and review coins, shapes, and skills, Writing Numbers 15-16
Week 9: November 2: Introduction to Telling Time, Writing Numbers 17-18
Week 10: November 9: Telling Time to the Hour, Writing Numbers 19-20
Week 11: November 23: Telling Time to the Half Hour, Writing Numbers Game
Week 12: November 30: Analog and Digital Clocks

Learning Goals

Students will improve fine motor & number skills by writing numbers 1-20.
Students will improve math skills by practicing addition and subtraction with hands on models and paper/pencil.
Student will improve math skills by counting, telling time to the hour and half hour and learning the value of the coins: penny, nickel and dime.  
Students will improve visual spatial skills by recognizing and identifying 2D and 3D shapes.

Parental Guidance
Students will need to use scissors during certain activities. Please supervise or help your student with the scissors.
