Hello! Thank you for visiting my listing for the course "Prehistoric Humans for Junior Archeologists." This course meets one time, and would be a great place to start a study of ancient world history. We will begin the class with a brief overview of the earliest portions of humanity's story, beginning around 3 million years ago and spreading around the world. The bulk of this course will focus on humanity in (approximately) the past 50,000 years. We will look at the artifacts left behind by early people, including tools, art, and settlements. We will see what some of the world's earliest cities looked like, and try to learn about some of their beliefs. We will learn some different ways researchers learn the age of objects under study. Our study finishes when writing begins, which is considered the end of prehistory. If your child enjoys this lesson, make sure to check out my subsequent courses in the Junior Archeologist series. The first civilization is Mesopotamia, and their civilization is fascinating (even if you think you've never heard of them!). Thank you, Ms. Elizabeth
Learning Goals
Students will gain a broad understanding of human pre-history (the time before writing).

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional teacher, certified in the state of Florida. My teacher's license covers Social Sciences for grades 6-12, and I have worked hard to earn my gifted endorsement on my license. I have taught middle school social studies for four years (and interned in college before that), teaching ancient history and civics. I have also led my school's GeoBee competition and MUN team.
I double-majored in college, studying both social science education and history. I am so glad I chose that route. I believe that having both a strong knowledge of pedagogy and a strong background in content has enabled me to succeed in designing classes that are both interesting and intellectually stimulating.
My goal is to create lifelong learners. Everyone should strive for constant improvement and intellectual growth. To that end, I myself pursued a Master's in History while working as a teacher, and I am proud to say I earned my Master's in the Spring of 2019. My focus was primarily on modern Europe, but I studied the modern Middle East as well. I feel that studying topics of interest leads to growth that benefits us throughout our lives.
