What's included

22 live meetings
18 hrs 20 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will be assigned at the end of each class on Khan Academy, will connect to our daily lessons, and will be due one hour before the next class. Students should expect to spend 10 - 20 minutes/class day outside of class on their homework depending on their skill level, which allows for independent practice on the skills covered in that day's lesson. Khan Academy provides practice exercises and instructional videos and gives immediate feedback to the student if their solutions are correct or not. Khan Academy is an online tool that allows me to assess the student's strengths and see the exact problems they struggled with. Students will join my Khan Academy class with a code given that will be posted before the first day of class in the Outschool Classroom. Parents will also be given information on how to sign up to view their child's progress on Khan Academy.
Assessment
In addition to informally assessing the learner through class activities and participation, the student will be assessed through their homework exercises and quizzes & tests on Khan Academy. Parents will receive a percentage grade and an individual write-up of their child's progress half way through the semester (after Day 11) and again at the end of the semester (after Day 22).

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 8
This is a 22-session 12 week class that is Common Core - aligned and covers the second half of PreAlgebra. This class is best for students who are in a 7th/8th grade math or PreAlgebra class. To be successful in this class, students should be fluent in their multiplication & division facts.

We will start class each day with a "fun fact" of the day and then a quick "Homework Check-in", clarifying any questions from the previous night's assignment. The lesson will start with a spiral review of previous concept(s) followed by direct instruction of that day's concept and practice. Direct instruction will occur via Power Point presentations and problems from online sources, shared worksheets, and/or on the white board. During class, students will be active in their learning by participating in class discussions and answering questions in the chat, receiving private feedback from me. Class will run for 50 minutes each day - with an additional 10 minutes available immediately after class for students who would like extra practice or help with a concept.

This class meets every Monday & Wednesday EXCEPT it WILL NOT MEET on Wednesday, March 22. - the last day of class will be on Monday, April 10th.

Supply List
Students should have a notebook to write down our class work and notes on, as well as use it for their homework problems. Students should use either a pencil or erasable pen to keep their work clear and organized. A dry erase board and marker could also be used.

Students will be provided with daily notes that will be available as part of their "PreAlgebra 7th & 8th Grade Math | Spring Semester 2" Welcome Packet once they enroll. Students can either print out the notes or view them as a PDF on their device. Students can paste the daily notes into a notebook as we go and then use following pages for their classwork and homework, or put them in a binder or folder to have as a resource during class.

Students will need to access www.khanacademy.org for daily homework. Instructions how to access Khan Academy are in the "PreAlgebra 7th & 8th Grade Math | Spring Semester 2" Welcome Packet and will be on the Outschool Classroom. I will stay after our 1st class to make sure all students have successfully joined our Khan Academy class, so they are set for the first night's homework assignment.
