US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
This class is designed to help young children prepare for pre-school, pre-k, and kindergarten alphabet writing*. We will be learning the proper way to grasp a pencil/crayon to begin tracing shapes to develop the hand coordination skills that are needed to eventually form letters. We will trace shapes on printed handouts and write the six main diagrams that lead to proper writing skills (circle/oval, cross, X, square, triangle, and the odd form) according to Kellogg's Theory. Students will also improve their bilateral integration skills (using both hands to do a task) by holding the paper with one hand and writing with the other. After class students can continue to practice their new skills on the provided handouts. This class is taught in a very positive environment recognizing that every student's writing ability is different. We strive for improvement, not perfection. *Please note this is not an appropriate class for a student that is already writing their ABC's
Learning Goals
At the end of class, students will have improved their pencil grip, practiced pre-writing shapes, and learned to determine the difference between shapes.

Hello! My name is Calliope, and I live in sunny, Southern California with my husband, son, daughter and the amazing Kasey Doodle dog. I have 18 years of teaching experience in private schools, homeschooling my two children and teaching English to children in China, Japan and Mongolia. I also have a Bachelor’s degree from U.C.L.A. in History and Education.
I would love to teach your child about all the “ins-and-outs” of the English language and reading skills, Social Studies, and even a little cooking and crafting. I also offer classes on life skills, event planning, and teenage entrepreneurship.
I believe in encouraging as much student output as possible during our classes. Children will learn best when they feel involved and every child in my classroom is important and greatly valued. I want children to see that what they are learning is relevant to their lives and taught in a genuine and caring manner.
I promise any student of mine will leave my class with a smile on their face and excitement about the content they just learned. I can’t wait to see you in the classroom!
