Learners (ages 9-12) will have many opportunities to talk, listen, and practice conversation skills in this highly engaging class. They will practice conversation skills, play interactive games, set goals, discuss topics that interest them, and build community when they meet each week in our homeroom class. My name is Dr. Julie Connor and I am a confidence builder. I help students discover their unique voice and speak in front of others with confidence. As a TED and school assembly speaker, I empower youth and adults with communication skills to build relationships, create safe boundaries, and resolve conflicts. My doctoral degree is in education. I am certified to teach elementary education (K-8) as well as secondary communication arts, speech and theater, English, and science education. I have more than 30 years of teaching experience in traditional and online classrooms. I empower student teachers and seasoned educators with the same creative and interactive strategies I use with students. I speak to students and adults at schools and conferences throughout the country and engage others in conversations about tough topics such as mental health awareness, bullying, substance abuse, and suicide prevention. Students will set a (1) personal and (2) academic goal every week. They will share their progress and celebrate success in class.
* Marker and whiteboard (or pen/pencil and paper)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Class discussion, thumbs up / thumbs down, brainstorming, class polls, share and receive positive feedback and encouragement, check-ins with the teacher and with peers throughout the class
