In this ongoing course, we will focus on the phonemic awareness curriculum from Heggerty. These skills include hand motions that help the students learn. Students will participate by listening and responding to practice skills. The Heggerty curriculum includes: rhyming and onset fluency, isolating final or medial sounds, blending and segmenting sounds, adding and deleting phonemes, and substituting phonemes. This research-based program supports the skill ability to hear individual sounds in spoken words; the relationship between letters and sounds.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Sarah B. Students can call also call me Ms. Sarah or Teacher Sarah. I have been an elementary teacher for over 15 years. I have in depth training in math and reading. I teach phonics, phonemeic awareness, foundational math skills, as well as early reading and comprehension. I like to add art and music to my lessons to help reach multiple styles of learners. I believe that learning never ends. You can learn from the people you meet, your experiences, and your everyday surroundings!
In addition to teaching, I have also been a gymnastics coach for over 20 years. I have worked with students in the parent/tot classes, all the way up to level 10 competitive gymnasts. I will be working on teaching classes about positive mindset, as well as coaching skills and management.
I currently live in Tennessee with my husband and our two year old daughter. We love being outdoors, exploring new places, enjoying delicious food, and meeting new people.
