Pre-Reading Skills - Color Through the Alphabet (Step 1 in Learning to Read)

Students will learn 6 letters a week (2 in each class) and the sounds as we color and draw our way through the alphabet. We will also explore different shapes of each letter. Lastly, we will sing an alphabet song at the end of each class. I will teach this class by providing the learners with a coloring sheet and showing them different ways the letters can appear. Students will be encouraged to share their coloring and to participate as we learn to remember the sounds each letter makes by doing a body movement/action for each letter. Learners will get time to share their coloring sheet at the end of the class and show us their favorite of each letter that they colored. No prior knowledge is needed for this class. Once the students have learned all the letters (parents are provided with a tracking sheet), then the learner is ready to move into the Step 2 multi-week class in my Learning to Read Series.

Supply List
Students will be provided with the letter sheets, coloring sheets and optional follow up activities. Please also have either a whiteboard and dry erase marker or paper and a DARK MARKER. :) See you in class.

I offer classes related to my expertise. Mainly you will find classes that teach students how to develop strong foundational skills for reading via proven and explicit phonics skills, and comprehension enhancements for fluently reading students.
I believe that learning happens when the learner teaches, so my classes are interactive and FUN! Students will be engaged via participation but also respected as they develop comfort in our classes.
