Building Reading Foundations consist of letter and sound recognition, rhyming words, and sound placement, all while making reading fun! For years I have watched students struggle in the area of Reading. I begin teaching in Middle School and saw many of my students were on Kinder to First Grade level. Instead of being a part of the problem, I moved down to elementary and worked with students where they were to close gaps. Those gaps, for many, is due to the pace that teachers must go and therefore students are left behind. I am very passionate about reading and making helping students achieve their goals. My course offerings place the student on their level after an initial level assessment. This class is the first step of the reading building block. Other classes that will be offered in the future. Phonics - Pre-Reading Skills (Letter and Sound Recognition, Rhyming words, Beginning sounds) Current class -Beginning Reading (mixed vowel CVC words) -Beyond CVC (Endings, Blends, Consonant Digraphs) -Vowel Patterns Comprehension -Main Idea -Summarizing -Context Clues/Multi-meaning words -Predictions, Conclusion, and Making Inferences -Suggestions by Parents
Student will require a dry erase board and dry erase markers, but pencil and paper will do just as good.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Younger students might need help to maneuver the camera during the lesson at first. It is also very important to have parent support to help students study when the class is not in session.
