I balance a fun, student-centered approach with more traditional models, often replacing arduous theory worksheets with games. In my music classes, my goal is to build a creative, stress-free environment so that my students enjoy the music-making process. **This class is a fun introduction to piano for young beginners. I strongly recommend students attend this class BEFORE the "Piano Primer I: Songs on the Black Keys" series. The class may also be attended concurrently with Piano Primer I: Part A or Wunderkeys Piano 1.** Lesson Structure: Each class will consist of... * Finding groups of two and three black keys on the keyboard. * A game to reinforce finding groups of two and three black keys. * Practice finding high and low sounds on the keyboard. * A rhythm clap back activity. * Learning a new song– teacher demonstrations, student play-along, and opportunity for students to perform and share. Each week, students will learn a new song, played on the black keys, and built from simple patterns. Instructional reminder videos and duet play-along tracks will be posted in the classroom. Schedule for New Songs: Week of 11/4: Madam Octopus Week of 11/11: Fuzzy Wuzzy Week of 11/18: Sam Week of 11/25: Soaring Bird Week of 12/2: Hands in the Mirror Week of 12/9: Tall Giraffe Week of 12/16: Dante Week of 12/23: Outer Space Week of 12/30: Chopsticks Week of 1/6: Inchworm Week of 1/13: Kangaroo **This song list schedule will repeat. Students can join at any time. Students who have attended all classes (or reviewed the recordings) and mastered the songs should be ready to begin the next class series. For piano lessons, ideally the video camera should be positioned to face the keyboard/piano keys to show the student's hands *and* face. At the first lesson, I may ask to see your seating arrangement. Often, young children need a booster seat and a footstool in order to play comfortably at an adult-sized instrument.
Learning Goals
Students will...
* learn to identify groups of 2 and 3 black keys on the keyboard.
* recognize various kinds of pattern sequences.
* imitate rhythm patterns.
* recognize high and low sounds on the keyboard.
* memorize an easy song every week.

Parental Guidance
To fully participate in any music class, it's best to check your audio settings in Zoom first! Watch below to find out how to turn on ORIGINAL SOUND on your device:

Parents must stay off camera as much as possible but will need to assist as necessary during class time to help their young learner find the correct keys, clap along to the rhythm, and control the mute button in Zoom. Three-year-olds and other very young students may need the parent to sit with them and physically pick up the learners hands to find the keys. Parents will also be expected to assist with at home practice throughout the week.
Absolutely NO EATING during class. Learners will need the constant use of both of their hands as well as to engage with their full attention. Learners who are eating on camera may be asked to leave.
Supply List
Each learner should have access to a piano or music keyboard. For this class, there will be no printed materials as all songs will be memorized and learned via video. Supplemental videos and recorded duets will be provided.
