In this stand-alone class, learners will revisit the grammar skills needed to successfully learn Latin.
Class experience
Foundational English grammar will be taught as it pertains to Latin grammar and translation. I will cover all of the parts of speech and how they work together. I use various examples and let the learners also experiment with the parts of speech. I always make certain the learners understand the concept before moving on, and I welcome questions and interaction. They will each be asked to label a sentence with the parts of speech and their function. At the end of class, to get them excited for...
Learners will gain a very strong idea on how to put together sentences with the parts of speech, and how that will help them when they begin to translate Latin in future classes. This grammar skillset will also help them in their other language courses, whether they are learning English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, or Greek! Foundational grammar is also integral to writing clearly and concisely.

A worksheet and handout will be provided for each learner. Learners may want to bring paper and something to write with to take notes during the class.
I will refer to a Latin dictionary once during the class. I will draw from, but not show, Wheelock's Latin (7th ed.) for the purpose of introducing the Latin equivalent to our English parts of speech.
