Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will:

-make predictions
-listen to a story read aloud
-identify characters
-retell the events of a story in sequential order (i.e. beginning, middle, end)
-describe characters' actions
-describe the setting (i.e. places and time of day)
-discuss the theme of identifying and managing strong emotions
-draw a picture and/or write a summary about what they read
All of our teachers hold bachelors degrees and received 3 hours of professional development to address social-emotional learning topics by a Behavior Specialist and Special Education Advocate and Consultant with over 10 years experience for each specialist.
We encourage our students to independently read with an older family member or caregiver for at least 10 minutes every day.

Required: -Print the Writing/Drawing Paper provided by the teacher OR Bring your own Writing/Drawing Paper (FREE-$1.00) -Pencils ($1.00) -Crayons ($2.00) -Markers ($2.00) ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Optional: -Parent-approved fidget ($3.00-$10.00)
Learners' progress will be assessed by them sharing their drawn/written summaries of what they read. 
1 hour 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The book we're reading discusses the topic of identifying and managing strong emotions. All our teachers are trained to discuss the idea of identifying strong emotions with the end goal of students learning strategies to manage strong emotions.

The movement activities will consist of stretching, dancing, jumping, spinning, clapping, snapping, and some simple yoga poses (i.e. tree and cat poses). Students should have enough open space to complete these movement activities. Students should have on comfortable clothes and shoes whenever possible.
